Scotland's Sea Kingdom Grade 2

About Scotland's Sea Kingdom

Floating on the edge of the Atlantic, but nestling in to the mainland, is a group of islands linked by a common history but that are very different in character. Colonsay, Oronsay, Islay, Jura and Gigha cluster together and provide an excellent variety of walking and exploring.

There will be chances to find or observe several species of flora and fauna which are otherwise rare in the UK. Added to that, the rich diversity of archaeological sites will add even more interest to our walks. To round off our island hopping adventure we visit Dunadd, the capital of Dalriada, the ancient kingdom of the Scots.

Ferry Journeys

There is always a slight possibility on trips involving ferries, that severe weather conditions or other reasons will prevent a scheduled sailing. However unlikely this may be on this trip, it may not be possible to keep to the planned timings. Any additional expenses incurred through changes in the ferry schedule will not be met by C~N~Do Scotland.

Scotland's Sea Kingdom - Brief Itinerary:

Meet at Stirling station: 12:00

Return: 17:00

Day 1: Drive by minibus to Oban in time to catch the 17.00 sailing to Colonsay arriving about 19.20. Next 2 nights’ accommodation is in a private hostel.

Day 2 & 3: Two days to explore Colonsay and Oransay. Catch the 18.05 ferry to Islay, arriving 19.15, where we are based for the next 4 nights in the SYHA hostel.

Day 4 - 6: Three day will allow some exploration of Islay and Jura but of course you would need as many months to do them justice.

Day 7: Pack up to move on again. After a wee morning stroll on Islay we catch the 12.50 ferry from Port Ellen to Kennacraig on Kintyre, Scotland’s ’mainland island’. There will be time to explore locally in the Tarbet area, where we stay for the next 2 nights in hotel accommodation.

Day 8: Today we head to Tayinloan and the ferry to Gigha. For a full day walking and exploring there.

Day 9: Pack up for the last time and head back toward Stirling but not before visiting Kilmartin and Dunadd the seat of the kings of early Scots.
