Independent Kintyre Way Grade 2-Grade 3

Newly opened in August 2006 and stretching from Tarbert Harbour, in the north of the peninsula, to Dunaverty Bay in the south, the Kintyre Way allows exploration of this as yet undiscovered part of Scotland. The 89 mile (144km) Kintyre way criss-crosses Kintyre connecting communities and explores tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and inlets, breathtaking beaches and genuinely friendly locals.

Have it your way!

If you would like to change or add to any of our range of Independent Walking holidays detailed in this section, don't keep it a secret.

Tell us what you have in mind and we'll put somehting together for you.

This is the area the Vikings tried to claim as an island by dragging their boats across the narrow neck of land at Tarbert (translated from the Old Norse as Boat Drag).

Much of the walking is on forest tracks and quiet roads but one section does cross remote open moorland where route finding skills will be required if visibility is poor.

Accommodation is extremely limited at some locations along the Kintyre Way so early booking is strongly recommended. If accommodation is unavailable at the overnight stops taxi transfers to/from off route accommodation can be arranged at an additional cost.

We are offering two packages on the Kintyre Way Superior and Premier.

On both packages evening meals are available either at your accommodation or nearby at a local pub / hotel. Packed lunches are obtainable either from accommodation providers or local shops. Details will be provided in your holiday dossier.

Baggage transfers for 1 bag per person are included on all options so you only need to carry a day pack.

In addition to this self guided independent holiday we are also offering the Kintyre Way as part of our guided walking programme.
