Independent West Highland Way Grade 3

Conceived in the 1960's but finally opened in 1980, the 95 mile West Highland Way is Scotland's first official long distance route. Starting in Milngavie on the outskirts of Glasgow, it follows the edge of Loch Lomond, Scotland's largest freshwater Loch, and winds through the very heart of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, Scotland's first National Park.

Have it your way!

If you would like to change or add to any of our range of Independent Walking holidays detailed in this section, don't keep it a secret.

Tell us what you have in mind and we'll put somehting together for you.

The West Highland Way then proceeds by Glen Falloch and Strath Fillan then heads across the expanse of Rannoch Moor and over the Devil's staircase to the finish in Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis.

A walk along the West Highland Way is a week of delights, the landscapes and views change daily. Truly a grand walk, the West Highland Way is a great way to discover the vast diversity and appeal of Scotland's landscapes.

We are offering a choice of three options for our independent West Highland Way: Standard, Superior and Premier. In addition the West Highland Way is also available as part of our guided walking holiday programme.

On all options evening meals are available locally either at your accommodation or nearby. The Value option allows for either self-catering or eating out. Packed lunches are obtainable from accommodation providers or local shops. Details will be provided in your holiday dossier.

Baggage transfers for 1 bag per person are included on all options so you only need to carry a day pack.

This is an extremely popular route with limited accommodation. Early booking is strongly recommended so as to avoid additional costs incurred by having to transfer off-route to accommodation. In particular the months of May, July and August tend to book up at least 3 months in advance.

Start: Milngavie (outskirts of Glasgow) 0830 – 0900

Finish: Fort William flexible time on the Superior and Premier packages, late afternoon/early evening on the Value package.

Available: April to October – may be available at other times without overnight bag transfers. All departures are subject to accommodation availability – book early to avoid disappointment.
