About the Small Isles Explorer
A small group of islands with tremendous diversity, from peaceful tranquillity, through surprisingly colourful, to dramatically rugged. Our visit to Eigg, Canna and Rum is full of interest and wildlife spying chances. Accommodation varying from a simple traditional highland cottage, a 19th century converted barn, to an Edwardian castle, just adds to the variety.
Brief Itinerary for the Small Isles Explorer:
Day 1: Meet at Mallaig ferry terminal at 1400 and take the afternoon ferry to Eigg. Time for some exploration on the island, possibly out along the northern peninsula.
Day 2: Perhaps pop up the Sgurr and, explore out towards Beinn Tighe.
Day 3: Pack up and catch the morning ferry to Canna which should give us time to investigate our immediate surroundings there and perhaps have a look around from Carn a’Ghaill.
Day 4: A good investigation out to the western end of the island and to some of the archaeological sites should be possible.
Day 5: Pack up again and stash our gear somewhere. Perhaps time to go over to Sanday for a look around before catching the afternoon ferry to Rum. Perhaps time to go out to Port na Caraneon for a stroll.
Days 6&7: Two of several fine choices from amongst Kilmory, Guirdil, Harris, Barkeval, plus others, any of which are fantastic.
Day 8: Pack up and return to the harbour to return on the morning ferry via Canna, Muck and Eigg arriving in Mallaig at 1405.
